Global Warming: The Issue for our Time

Let us begin with a picture:

More precisely, two pictures of the same scene. On the left is a photo taken from space of the arctic in 1979. On the right is one taken in 2005, showing much less ice. Where did it all go and should we be concerned? That's what this page is all about. Read on …

There has been much in the news recently about the global warming issue, and indications that it is caused by human activity. The above photos accompany an article entitled "Arctic ice melting faster as temperatures climb", which can be read by clicking HERE. Another article, "First half of 2006 warmest on record in U.S." can be read by clicking HERE. There is thorough scientific research on the matter, and much more in the news …

Session Action:

On Tuesday, September 12, 2006, the Church and World Board brought to Session a recommendation that our church become affiliated with the California Interfaith Power and Light (CIPL) organization. Session voted to approve. CIPL’s mission is "to be faithful stewards of Creation by responding to global warming through the promotion of energy conservation, energy efficiency and renewable energy." Click HERE to reach this group’s website and learn more.

Session’s action reflects its understanding that churches and their members must become involved in finding solutions to this generation’s major environmental issue, in a disciplined, organized way.
