Leadership at StoneThose who serve at Stone Church as elected officers and members of committees are the keys to our ministry. Accepting a role in the church's leadership is an appropriate response to Christ's call for all the people of God to be ministers of the Gospel. Because our leadership is broad-based, employing the gifts of many people across the full scope of the church's ministry and mission, there are places for every interest, every talent, every person. Session The Session is the principal governing body responsible for the mission and government of the church consisting of the pastors and elders in active service. Elders are nominated by the Nominating Committee and elected by the congregation to serve three-year terms beginning in July. Five elders are elected each year for three-year terms. In addition, there is a youth elder (also elected for three years) for a total of 16 elders serving on Session. In addition to handling the administration of the church's government, the Session is also responsible for providing leadership and direction in the determination of the church's mission. Session meets the second Tuesday of every month at 7:30 PM. Session meetings are open. To suggest your name for consideration, please contact the church office. The following table provides Session Assignments for 2007-2008
Return to top Deacons The office of Deacon is set forth in Scripture as one of sympathy, witness and service, after the example of Jesus Christ. Deacons are elected by the congregation and are ordained as officers of the church. The Deacons focus on a ministry of care to the congregation, assisting the pastors in bringing the presence of the church to the needs of God's people. There are 21 adult Deacons and from one to three youth Deacons at Stone; as with Elders, each Deacon serves a three year term. If you are interested in serving as a Deacon, please contact the church office. For a list of current Deacons and their assignments, click Here. To access the Deacons Prayer Chain website click Here. CommitteesNominating Committee The Nominating Committee consists of representatives from the Session, the various committees and the congregation at large. It is charged with prayerfully discerning the gifts of Stone Church members and bringing forward a slate of candidates for election to the offices of the church. For more information, contact the church office. Return to top Personnel & Administration The Personnel and Administration Committee consists of two members of Session and four members selected for the congregation at large. The ministry of the P&A Committee is to enable the Session to fulfill its responsibility to provide for personnel and administrative services for the church, and to coordinate activities among all the groups which both serve and utilize our facilities. Return to top Budget & Finance The Budget and Finance Committee provides specific budgeting, financial coordination, guidance and oversight for the church. B&F activities include:
Return to top Buildings & Grounds B&G is responsible for the care of church property. The committee oversees regular maintenance, organizes work days and engages in long-term planning for the facility. The work of this committee involves both "hands on" labor and thought. Return to top Christian Education In March 1995, the San Jose Mercury-News named Stone as one of the four best churches in the Valley for families with children. Return to top Church & World The purpose of the Church and World Committee is to administer mission programs and be a supportive influence and resource for the congregation in its ministries for compassion, concern and transformation in the local community and the world. We actively support local mission. We are part of a rotating homeless shelter. The Committee invites church members to consider service to this ministry. Return to top Membership & Evangelism The M&E Committee coordinates programs that focus on building a sense of community among the members of Stone Church, while reaching out to promote our presence as a Christian community in the Willow Glen neighborhood and the Santa Clara Valley. M&E aids us as we welcome visitors and provides opportunities for Christian fellowship and social gatherings which strengthen us to proclaim the Gospel to the world. It is the group who supports the communication of Stone Church, including this web site. Return to top Stewardship Stewardship is the task of providing, through prayer, study and service, an effective program of stewardship interpretation and education for Stone Church. The work goes on throughout the year as it encourages members to understand stewardship as care for God's gifts and response to Christ's grace. Return to top Worship The Worship Committee works closely with the pastors and the music staff to provide for Reformed worship expressive of the congregation's experience of God. Members bring their joyful desire to respond to God in worship to this work. Click here to learn more about worship at Stone Church. Return to top Budget Review The Budget Review Committee is composed of the moderators of all the Session committees. It convenes near the end of the church year with the function to establish the detailed working budget for the next year. Each committee has a budget, broken down to specific activities and expenses. The Session has the responsibility to approve the church budget. Return to top |
